Yes, most floating vanities are essentially base cabinets ordered without a toe kick and at a reduced height to leave open space underneath. In many cases, this is simply a wall cabinet being used as a base cabinet, or a base cabinet ordered without a toe kick.
Please see the attached image for reference. In this example, a 9″ open air gap was left beneath the cabinets. The layout includes a 2″ filler, a two drawer base cabinet, a wide sink cabinet, another two drawer base cabinet, and a 3/4″ finished end panel to complete the run.
All of our cabinets are constructed from 3/4″ thick plywood, so structural rigidity is not a concern. Be sure to use heavy duty structural screws to securely fasten the cabinets to the wall studs to ensure stability even under heavy loads. This is a simple and reliable method for floating vanity installations.
