crown molding – flat options
We are looking at crown for kitchen cabs (96 inch ceiling height) and we may need to do a flat vs angled trim, due to tie-ins with wall.
Any ideas of build up that could make the flat molding a little more interesting (and would likely make it easier to run to the ceiling)?Do you happen to know how the crown build up was done in this project? https://www.barkercabinets.com/Pasys-Project-s/367.htm
It looks like a two inch tall cap piece along the ceiling, however I can’t tell how thick it is. I am trying to recreate a similar flat crown with some dimension. Hopefully there is something interesting we could build up with Barker finished pieces? -

Looks like they used a 4” tall flat molding (regular flat molding from our site) and then added a 2” tall Square Trim to the face. This was likely done to hide an odd gap where the crown meets the ceiling instead of heavy caulking. Looks nice.

I did see that 2inch by 3/4 inch piece also, but I am thinking the 3/4 inch depth change might be a bit too heavy of a transition up.I just watched the crown molding video posted on the crown molding page and had an idea from your 9inch 3 piece buildup.
I was thinking that maybe that buildup molding might be a great looking transition on top of the flat base crown molding, after seeing it be the middle piece in the 9 inch crown buildup.
If we wanted to, I assume we could rip down the height of the 3.5 inch buildup molding to say 2 or 2.5 inches and bring it to the ceiling.
Do you happen to have any images of what the front profile of the buildup molding looks like? -
Sure, the build up molding is rather easy to cut down in height. I will see about getting some pics showing it in real life.

Under the ‘crown packages’ section (https://www.barkercabinets.com/Crown-Packages-s/206.htm) would you be willing to add packages for the ‘Flat’ crown section?
Currently, it contains only the single piece Flat Crown Backer piece. Maybe the flat package could be the 3″ flat crown backer piece and the buildup molding piece? -

Yes, that was the idea … something to combine with the flat crown backer to be able to float along the ceiling.
The 3.5 inch buildup looks like it could be a great option for a flat crown with some further visual interest! -
