Was trying to maintain the look of the slab frameless wall cabinets with the idea of placing and hiding under cabinet lighting. Is it possible to have the cabinet door made longer to hide the undercabinet valance. What are your recommendations for a seamless look so that it doesn’t end up looking like an inset wall cabinet.

Historically, we have not offered the option for doors to overlap the bottom of the cabinet case. This can create issues with reveals and lead to a mismatch between what is ordered and what the customer expects, which can cause problems during installation and project completion.

That said, to solve this, we can add a recessed bottom, or “scribe,” to the wall cabinet. This would raise the cabinet bottom by 3/4″ or 1.5″, which are the most common options. The doors would still overlap the bottom deck by that amount, but the overall cabinet height would remain the same, and the exterior appearance would be unchanged from a standard cabinet.

If we do this, the bottom edge of the cabinet should be edge banded, since you can no longer use a standard light valance to cover the exposed plywood edges as we typically do. You could still install a square trim piece, but it would need to be cut to fit into the recessed area of each wall cabinet. Some customers may choose to leave the recess exposed.

The result is a fully integrated under-cabinet lighting solution without the need for a visible valance below the cabinet when the doors are closed.

Note that 1.75″ is the maximum recess we can offer. At 2″, the cabinet bottom would interfere with the hinge plate. Also, the reveals would need to be adjusted so the doors fully cover the top and bottom of the cabinet, which would make this design unsuitable for stacking with other cabinets.

We could also apply a similar modification to the top of the cabinet, allowing for integrated lighting above. This can create a really clean, high-end look.

Let me spend some time on this. I can add a new cabinet option to the site that allows for this customization. Should be a few days.

This is a great solution for what we have been looking for, looking forward to the updates. Thank you.

I have just added this to Citycabinets.com.

Slight different design, but the same idea. I will add to barkercabinets.com next.

Would love to see this under cabinet option added to Barker site also! Specifically for the glass 1door and 2door wall models. I think this will look clean when combined with the square edge flat molding between the side panels as you suggested. Not looking for the top option, but that is a good idea too.

These are perfect, thank you. Am hoping for this option on a 7” slim wall 1-door cabinet as well

This would not be possible with the SLIM wall cabinet, as it uses a different construction method for the bottom. The bottom panel overlaps the lower edges of the left and right cabinet sides, which prevents this type of modification.

That said, the SLIM wall cabinet is a legacy design that was originally created to accommodate our older Uniflex CNC. That machine is no longer in use, and our newer CNC equipment can reliably handle much smaller parts. As a result, we can now offer the standard one-door wall cabinet in widths down to 6 inches without any foreseeable issues. As with any small part, narrower widths combined with deeper depths increase the chance of movement during machining, but we have developed methods over the years to keep everything stable.

We are updating the standard wall cabinet, as well as the integrated UCL wall cabinet, to accept widths below 9 inches, all the way down to 6 inches. This change will allow us to phase out the SLIM version of this cabinet moving forward. These updated sizing options are now available on the appropriate product pages.

Hi, Are you able to have this option for the 2-door 90 degree cabinet? Thanks.

I will need to add that option to the site.

In the meantime, you can simply order the regular Wall 90 cabinet and request that the bottom be recessed by 3/4″ in the order notes. That is a pretty easy change.
