Got a few questions about the WEXPOSEDNOSHELVES and my particular use case (see picture). I’m planning to install a WEXPOSEDNOSHELVES under a wall cabinet to add more storage above a toilet, but I’m not sure about depths of the finished sides and the WEXPOSEDNOSHELVES itself.

    – Are all of the exterior sides, top and bottom of the WEXPOSEDNOSHELVES finished with the same material as the inside? Just wondering if I need to buy a finished end for the bottom of the cabinet (or if the top is finished, maybe I could just flip it upside down?
    – Should I make the WEXPOSEDNOSHELVES the same depth as the wall cabinet, or should I add 5/8″ like you do with the finished sides?
    – In this case, would I want the Finished Ends on the sides to have the 5/8″ extra depth or not?

    Thank you in advance!

The side, top, and bottom will all have exposed areas that need to be covered with a finished end panel, finished top, or under-cabinet skin.

A finished end panel can be used for all of these areas if you want. It is essentially the same product as a finished top or finished under-cabinet skin.

The sides of that exposed cabinet will have construction holes showing, just like the wall cabinet placed on top. So yes, you will need a couple of finished end panels for the left and right sides, and a couple of finished ends for the top and bottom.

Finished ends are usually ordered 5/8″ proud of the cabinet cases. This allows the edges of the cabinet doors to be covered slightly, creating a clean stepped-back, flush appearance.

Thanks for the response – OK, I might be overthinking this, but if I make the sides 5/8″ proud, but the open cabinet portion depth matches the upper cabinet without a door, won’t the sides stick out from the open cabinet? Or should I also order the open cabinet 5/8″ deeper as well?

Sure. You can order the exposed cabinet 5/8” deeper than the upper cabinet. This will bring the cabinet face flush with the finished end panel for a cleaner appearance.

There will still be a small vertical seam between the end panel and the cabinet, but it is minimal and typically not very noticeable.

You can request a depth adjustment in 5/8” increments by adding it to the preset notes at checkout.
