  • Under Channel Cabinet for LED Lighting?

Posted by Jim Baldinger on September 2, 2026 at 6:55 am

Is is possible to request a shallow 1/4 in deep by 3/4 inch channel to be routered out along the bottom of upper cabinets for concealing under cabinet lighting? I know you also sell the Under Cabinet Light Valence, but I’d like to do something more sleek and avoid adding the extra 2 inches to the front of the cabinets. Thanks.

Currently, adding a CNC operation to the underside of the cabinet’s bottom panel is not something we’re able to offer. Even if we could machine that dado, it would not continue through the left and right side panels, so those areas would still need to be notched out on site using hand tools.

That said, we have been rolling out a newer version of our wall cabinets that may be a better solution. On these cabinets, the bottom panel is recessed upward by approximately 3/4″. This creates a concealed space for under-cabinet lighting behind the doors without interfering with hinge placement.

We can build virtually any wall cabinet this way, and it has become an increasingly popular option since we introduced it earlier this year.

Thanks, Chad. That seems like a really good solution. But if I’m reading the pricing correctly, it looks like there’s a pretty significant price difference for recessing the bottom of the cabinets by 3/4 of an inch. The cost of the entire cabinet apparently goes up by 25% (which works out to $180 more on a 2 door upper cabinet). Is that accurate? Is there a more cost effective way to do this?

The W2DINTEGRATEDUCL cabinet should be priced at a fixed $100 more than a standard W2D cabinet. All other pricing should remain the same, since the cabinet itself is otherwise unchanged.

The $100 upcharge covers the custom edge-banding process required for this cabinet. Standard cabinet parts are typically edge-banded on only one side. For the integrated UCL version, both the top and bottom edges of the side panels must be banded, which requires a three-pass process and additional handling.

This is a nonstandard production step, so the fixed charge also accounts for the additional setup and the higher possibility that a missed edge could require a replacement part to be remade and shipped.
