Open Wall Cabinet Mounting Question
Hello, If I wanted to put open wall cabinets (as bookshelves) at the end of a section of base AND wall cabinets, but not facing the front, but instead facing the side (functioning somewhat as the “end panels” for the cabinets, will that work from a mounting perspective? Mounting would then be through the side of the cabinet into the wall instead of the back of the cabinet (though maybe it should also be screwed into the side of the cabinet “behind” it?). Structurally is that okay if I put books on them (primarily a question for the top/wall unit)? Do I need any panels anywhere to cover any edges the if I make them as deep as the other cabinets (or do I make them 3/4″ deeper so it is the same depth as the doors?
Also, all your “end panels” are 3/4″ thick, correct? I’m used to seeing thin laminate like stuff to cover the ends of cabinets.

Sure, you can rotate a cabinet 90 degrees and install its back against the side of another tall cabinet stack. This is fairly common, and the cabinets are more than strong enough to hold books as you described. Just make sure the entire unit is properly screwed into wall studs to prevent any chance of tipping. Otherwise, this setup is perfectly fine.
Yes, all of our end panels are 3/4 inch thick as standard. We do not offer thin veneer skins to cover cabinet ends. Those are difficult to apply properly and require careful trimming along the edges to look correct. In addition, prefinished or sprayed veneers do not ship well because the finish tends to crack in transit.
