Why is a horizontal rail need in a refrigerator opening if you have a cabinet above?

You don’t have to include that rail, but the average refrigerator is about 70” tall, which is around eye level for many people. Adding the rail gives that area a more finished look by covering the underside of the cabinet, which would otherwise have a different material and finish than the cabinet face. Ultimately, the rail is purely an aesthetic choice.
