Finished End Panel on Stackable
I’m in the final stages of choosing cabinets and am almost ready to order cabinets to replace the ones in the attached photo. I want to generally copy what is already in the bathroom with an update, but have a few questions:
Red Arrow – I am planning to use stackable base and middle to replace the tall cabinet. Am I right in assuming a Finsihed End Panel – Tall would be what I would add finish the side of the tall cabinets?
Blue Arrow – Am I right in deciding that I need filler between the wall and the tall cabinet?
Green and Pink Arrows – Because I am going to add a finished end panel at the green arrow, would I reduce the width of the left “pink” cabinet by 3/4″ to make the “finished” width of both base drawer cabinets equal?

Yes, a single tall finished end panel should be installed on the side of your stacked wall/base/tall cabinets. This panel is always ordered as one continuous tall piece to cover the horizontal seams where the stacked cabinets meet.

Yes, a 2″ wide filler is needed between your tall cabinet stack and the wall. See the attached image for reference.

The green arrow points to a base finished end panel. Yes, this panel is 3/4″ thick. Be sure to account for this thickness in your cabinet design, as it will slightly reduce the available width of the adjacent base cabinets. This ensures both sides of the sink remain balanced and equal in width.

One last question: if I am ordering 21″ deep stacked cabinets what depth of a finished panel should I order for the red arrow. I am planning drawers for each side between the bases and a cabinet for the upper part of the stackable. I see the options are 21, or 21.625, or 21.8125

All good. For anyone else following along, we changed a few options for finished end panel depths.
As noted above, if a cabinet is ordered at 21″ deep, that refers to the cabinet case depth only and does not include the door thickness. Shaker doors with square edges (frame-and-panel) are approximately 13/16″ thick, while slab plywood doors are about 3/4″ thick.
On our City line, we added the option to run the face of the finished end panel flush with the face of the cabinet doors. This is not our traditional recommendation. Holding the end panel face back about 1/8″ allows more room for hinge adjustment, which helps compensate for the slight warp or bow that is normal with wood doors.
If you want a flush look, you can order the finished end panel at 21.8125″. This is a bit more aggressive, but it can work fine if you are comfortable with tighter tolerances and the possibility of very slight misalignment at the face.
The safer option is 21.625″. This keeps the end panel set back about 1/8″, which tends to look the most correct with square-edged cabinet doors and creates a clean transition while hiding hinge adjustments.
A 21″ finished end panel will also work, but it creates a more pronounced step-back that makes the cabinet resemble a face-frame style. That is generally not the intended look, so only use that option if you are trying to match existing cabinetry on site.
