  • Custom doors to match city cabinets kitchen

Posted by brendan on September 18, 2026 at 5:25 pm

I’m planning on ordering a city cabinets kitchen and have 2 use cases that I believe require buying separate doors from barker doors and fitting them myself. I’d like to confirm that I’m ordering the correct sizes, taking into account the reveals.

Make a w1dflipupaventoshkxs, but with a different hinge. So planning on buying an appliance box and a separate door. The appliance box will be 24 wide x 17 tall and stacked configuration with a b1d below and a w1d above. According to chief architect, it’s 1/16” reveal all sides:

    width: 23-7/8”

    height: 16-7/8”

Build up a dishwasher panel to match an adjacent b3dr (5-7/8” top, equal bottoms) by ordering the doors separately and attaching them together before mounting to the dishwasher. I tried mocking it in chief architect, but it gave some drawer heights that didn’t quite match what I was expecting for 34-3/4” tall x 24” wide:

    chief architect:

    all widths: 23-7/8”

    top panel height: 5-29/32”

    middle panel height: 12”

    bottom panel height: 12-19/32”

my calculations (assumes 1/4” top reveal, 1/8” reveal between doors, 0” reveal at bottom)

    top panel height: 5-7/8”

    mid & bottom heights: 12-3/16”

    Thank you!

Sure. I would not rely on Chief Architect for exact door sizes. It is not fully dialed in to our construction standards.

I would use Chief more as a design playground where you can get a good idea of what the cabinet will look like. The interior details and individual part sizes are still pretty loose and may not be especially accurate. We are working on a new designer that will eventually give you access to much more accurate cabinet and part information without having to contact the forums for actual CAD-level specifications (i.e. design and order in 3d, from one browser window).

For this cabinet, I would not order a separate door and cabinet case. We can make it as a normal flip-up cabinet but simply leave out the hinge drilling. That will be faster and leave less room for error.

Just order the regular one-door flip-up cabinet as normal, then in the order notes request that the hinge holes not be drilled for that specific cabinet. Just make sure you include those notes on the credit card screen at checkout.

Since you asked for the exact door size, see the attached image for the actual door dimensions for this cabinet. Our technical reveals are approximately 2 mm on each side, with 1/8″ at the top and 1/8″ at the bottom. The computer system may round slightly as needed, but the dimensions shown in the image are valid.

I also attached the B3DR image showing the applicable door sizes.

Thank you for the response – I’ll get the standard flip up box for the lifting door location & order the custom doors for the dishwasher on barker doors per your dimensions. If I order from city cabinets and barker doors, is there some way I can combine the orders together so they get shipped together?

City and Barker orders are produced independently of each other and unfortunately cannot be combined. Combining them would create too many logistical issues, particularly with holding completed orders on the shipping dock while waiting for the other order to finish production.
