  • Bottom drawer clearance with no toe kick

Hi, I’m looking at using two of the 2 door 1 drawer (drawer at bottom) base cabinets to create a built-in entertainment center/storage cabinets for an alcove area in my living room. I’d like to maximize storage space, so I was considering choosing the no toe kick option, but would that mean if I put the cabinets directly on the floor, that the bottom drawer face would only have 1/8″ of clearance to the floor? The flooring the cabinets would sit on is LVP but I would think at least 1/4″ or 1/2″ of clearance would be preferred to ensure rubbing/scraping isn’t an issue? Would you suggest using leveling feet or some type of slim base for the cabinets to sit on?

Alternatively, is it possible to order the cabinets with a flush toe kick of only 1″ or 2″ tall? Paired with a base molding (cut to matching height) I think this would still look great and prevent any clearance issues.

Sure, the best option here is to use the standard 4-inch toe kick and keep it flush. The 4-inch height creates the proper built-in look and provides a natural transition from the floor to the cabinet face. Trying to minimize the toe-kick area may actually draw more attention to it.

I would not order these base cabinets with the “No Toe Kick” option. That would place the bottom drawer front very close to the floor, leaving little room for operation and potentially causing rubbing or other issues.

Our standard 4-inch toe kick cannot be reduced to something like 1 inch because there would not be enough space to drill the horizontal mounting holes on each side of the front toe-kick panel.

In theory, you could order the cabinets with no toe kick and build your own 1-inch-tall platform on site. You could then wrap the platform with base molding to match the cabinet fronts and set the cabinets on top. This can work well because the platform can be leveled before the cabinets are installed, making the installation easier.
