Seems the standard file drawer automatically includes two file drawers. If one wanted a shorter overall base cabinet, say to a height of 28″–does that provide enough room in both drawers to accommodate filing?
Is there a way to have a base cabinet with ONE file drawer on the bottom, and a pullout shelf for a printer above?
Is there a way to have a file drawer where one is taller and the other is shorter?
Or is the best way to go a base cabinet with a door, and inside two pullout drawers–where we simply modify them at home to meet our needs?
My goal is to hide the printer–if possible.

BTW–just discovered your site and I am SOOOOO excited to order for a couple of projects!!!

Sure, a 28″ height is possible for the file drawer base cabinet, but it would leave very little clearance for the file tabs that stick up from the drawer. I strongly recommend using a minimum height of 28.5″ to provide at least some clearance, so the tabs don’t rub against the upper portion of the cabinet opening.

See here for a side view of that cabinet.

Including a file drawer at the bottom with a pullout shelf for a printer on top would be difficult to design in a way that looks clean and intentional. However, I can certainly add a single file drawer cabinet to the website that you can order as the base platform. From there, you could simply stack a wall cabinet with a door on top to create an accessible printer area.

Keep in mind, the file drawer cabinet is only 16.25″ wide, which means the interior width of any pullout shelf would be around 12 1/8″. In my opinion, that’s likely not wide enough to accommodate a standard printer.
