I want to add tall cabinets to the kitchen I got from you 9 years ago. The original is Sapele with espresso finish.
Questions:
1. How different would color look on new and old?
2. As Espresso finish is not transparent, can I use a less expensive wood? Suggestions?
3. I plan to order three tall cabinets (27 inches x 86 inches x 9 inches deep). Each to have two glass doors on top and two solid doors on the bottom (shaker style). If I order doors from BarkerDoors, how can I ensure that my cabinets are properly pre-drilled? (Do I need this at all?) -

The Espresso stain hasn’t changed much over the years, so it should look very similar to when it was originally sprayed. While your existing cabinet may have aged slightly, Espresso is a very dark color, so any difference should be minimal.
Yes, you can use a more affordable material like Alder. However, in my experience, Cherry takes stain the best.
Are you replacing doors on an existing cabinet with your BarkerDoor.com order? If you’re replacing doors from a cabinet we built 10 years ago, we can likely remake them to match. We keep records of most jobs we’ve produced.

Thanks. No, I’m adding new cabinets to another wall in the same kitchen. So the questions about doors and pre-drilling for hinges stay.

The best approach is to order the new tall cabinets directly from barkercabinets.com, as they will automatically include the doors and all necessary drilling.
We offer both the upper glass door cabinets and standard base-style cabinets to create a stacked tall cabinet setup. Note that our cabinet construction methods have not changed over the last 9 years (still exactly the same).
Stack this glass cabinet on top:

I placed order 55204, but realized today that I made a measurement mistake. Need to change the heights (make the base 3″ taller and the wall 3″ shorter). The rest is ok.
I replied to the order confirmation email.
Do I need to cancel, or can we update the existing order? -

I wil have Clayton find and reply to your email. Changes should not be an issue so long as we are a few days form the order being submitted. Changes after 3 business days would cause issues.

The cabinets I ordered are 46″ wide. I am afraid the shelves will sag. Any options for middle support? I already received the order, but if I can get a prefinished and predrilled for shelves middle wall, I could cut the shelves to the size…

One more question – my order (55204) has a flush toe kick. I received one whose front is not finished (not espresso, but clear).
Info on selection stated that the front is prefinished, which is logical. However, Gerard G said that I need to use toe skin, which is impossible as it makes the unfinished edges of the skin exposed on top and sides. So, what is correct?

For a flush toe kick, you’ll need base molding for the face. Base molding has a finished top edge, so the core will not be visible. View base molding options here:
https://www.barkercabinets.com/Base-Molding-s/69.htmA 46″ shelf is fairly wide, so some sagging may occur over time. Many customers simply flip the shelf occasionally to even out any sag. If you plan to store heavier items, consider ordering an additional shelf and doubling them up for a total thickness of 1.5″. Since these shelves are made from ¾” plywood, they are already quite stiff.
